Baruch Berliner’s symphonic poem Jacob’s Dream and composition “El Maleh Rachamim” to be performed in Be’er-Sheva, Israel, on October 24
On October 24, two works by composer Baruch Berliner will be performed at the Be’er Sheva Performing Arts Center in Israel: the symphonic poem for narrator, baritone, and orchestra Jacob’s Dream and the composition “El Maleh Rachamim” arranged for baritone and orchestra.
Jacob’s Dream is a symphonic poem drawn from the familiar biblical tale of Jacob, who dreamed of a ladder ascending to heaven and beheld the Lord Himself promising blessings to him and his descendants.
“El Maleh Rachamim” is the soundtrack for the film The Address on the Wall, which depicts the World War II tragedy at Babi Yar. The composition’s creators, Baruch Berliner, Nachum Slutzker, and Sergey Krutsenko (RIP), drew inspiration from a traditional Jewish memorial prayer. “El Maleh Rachamim” is also part of the eponymous Holocaust remembrance project, www.elmalehrachamim.com, which brings together musicians and orchestras honoring the memory of the victims with their own renditions.
The concert will feature:
Israel Sinfonietta Be’er Sheva
Conductor and cellist: Grammy nominee Dmitry Yablonsky
Bass-baritone: Alexey Kanunnikov
Narrator: Ronen Hirshler
Produced by Nachum Slutzker
