“El Maleh Rachamim” Performed by Daniel Kogan and the Kostroma Governorate Symphonic Orchestra
A video of the composition “El Maleh Rachamim” (Merciful God) has been released on Baruch Berliner’s YouTube channel. The piece was written by Baruch Berliner, Nachum Slutzker, and Sergey Krutsenko (RIP) for the film Address on the Wall, which narrates the story of the World War II tragedy at Babi Yar.
The composition was performed by violinist Daniel Kogan, grandson of the renowned Leonid Kogan, alongside the Kostroma Governorate Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Pavel Gershtein.
A third-prize winner of the Tchaikovsky Competition, Daniel Kogan teaches in the Department of Chamber Ensemble and String Quartet at the Moscow Conservatory and also serves as the artistic director of the “Prityazhenie” creative project.
The Kostroma Governorate Symphony Orchestra, led by Pavel Gershtein, is the region’s musical flagship with a 25-year history, which has brought to life a series of international festivals.
The composition “El Maleh Rachamim” was performed at the House of Music of the Kostroma Governorate Symphony Orchestra on November 7, 2024 “El Maleh Rachamim” has given rise to a Holocaust memorial project, where performers and orchestras record their versions of the piece to pay tribute to the victims.
