Genesis Symphonic Poem to Be Performed in Spain on March 5
On March 5, Málaga, Spain, will host a performance of one of Baruch Berliner’s most monumental works—the Genesis symphonic poem. The work is a cosmogony drawn from texts of the Old Testament, its seven movements recounting the primary acts of Divine Providence:
1) The Creation of the World;
2) Adam and Eve;
3) The Expulsion from Paradise;
4) Cain and Abel;
5) Noah;
6) The Flood;
7) The Token of the Covenant.

Genesis is a unique and innovative synthesis of sound, verbal narration, and video art, with the latter created specifically for the project by the renowned Israeli artist Yaron “Jewboy” Shin. The special sound effects used in the performance were designed by Evgeny Atsapkin, a composer and manager of Baruch Berliner’s Genesis International Project.
Dr. Berliner’s work will be performed by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Málaga under the baton of Yan Jianan.
Mr. Yan is a renowned Chinese conductor who leads the Kunming International Philharmonic Orchestra. The first Chinese musician to earn a doctoral degree from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, he studied under Leonid Korchmar, Stanislav Dyachenko, and Benjamin Zander. Mr. Yan is currently a professor at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, as well as a visiting professor at Southern Utah University (USA) and the Inner Mongolia Academy of Arts. He also serves as artistic director and guest conductor of the Hunan University of Commerce Symphony Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the Russian Chamber Orchestra, and guest conductor of the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra.
The concert is part of the cultural exchange initiatives between Málaga Province and Hunan Province (China).
