Jacob’s Dream Sonata Fantasia Performed in Montreal
On March 4, Baruch Berliner’s Jacob’s Dream sonata fantasia for violin and piano will be performed in Montreal, Canada. The piece will be presented by violinist Haik Kazazyan and pianist Sergei Salov.
Mr. Kazazyan is an exceptional violinist who has excelled in international competitions. A principal performer with the Moscow State Academic Philharmonic, he is among the most sought-after musicians of his generation. He has earned consistent acclaim for his performances at prestigious venues in Russia and abroad.
Mr. Kazazyan has appeared with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic, the Irish National Orchestra, the State Academic Symphony of Russia, the Orchestre National de France, the Münchener Kammerorchester, and Sinfonia Toronto.
He has worked alongside esteemed musicians, including Valery Gergiev, Teodor Currentzis, Yuri Simonov, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Alexander Lazarev, Andrew Litton, Constantine Orbelian, Pavel Kogan, Denis Matsuev, Eliso Virsaladze, Frederick Kempf, Alexei Lubimov, Natalia Gutman, Alexander Rudin, and Alexander Buzlov.
Pianist Sergei Salov is a laureate of international competitions: he won First Prize at the Dudley International Piano Competition in 2000 and the Épinal International Piano Competition in 2004, achieving Second Prize at the Gina Bachauer Competition in 2010 and the Cincinnati World Piano Competition in 2012. In May 2014, Mr. Salov received the inaugural Richard Lupien Improvisation Prize, awarded at the Montreal International Music Competition.
Mr. Salov’s concert repertoire encompasses masterpieces of the 19th and 20th centuries, along with works by lesser-known Soviet composers. He has performed with many acclaimed orchestras, including the Berlin Symphony Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony, the Orchestre National de France, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Across his career, he has collaborated with distinguished conductors, such as Martyn Brabbins, Lawrence Foster, Jacques Lacombe, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, and Leonard Slatkin.
