Jacob’s Dream To Be Performed in Kaliningrad

On September 12, virtuoso violist Andrey Gridchuk will join the Kaliningrad Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Mikhail Kirchhoff, in performing Baruch Berliner’s Jacob’s Dream concerto at the Sergei Rachmaninov College of Music. The concert is part of a series that brings together distinguished artists and rising talent.

Mr. Gridchuk is a unique performer, who gave his first solo concert with the Philharmonic Orchestra of his native Irkutsk at the age of six. As a member of the Moscow Soloists ensemble, he appeared at the world’s most renowned venues, until victories in two viola competitions—the 1984 All-Union Viola Competition in the USSR in 1984 and the 1989 Maurice Vieux International Viola Competition in Orléans—paved the way for his distinguished solo career. In 1994, he became the principal violist of the Deutsche Oper Berlin Orchestra, where he continues to work to this day.
Since then, Mr. Gridchuk has become a sought-after soloist, performing worldwide with orchestras such as the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Symphoniker Hamburg, Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, Deutsche Oper Berlin Orchestra, Weimar Staatskapelle, and English Chamber Orchestra, among others.

His collaborations have included conductors such as Rudolf Barshai, Yuri Bashmet, Marco Boemi, Kent Nagano, Krzysztof Penderecki, Christian Thielemann, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Ulf Schirmer, Riccardo Chailly, Marek Janowski, and Roman Kofman.
