Raanana Symphonette Orchestra, Israel, to Perform Jacob’s Dream Concerto for Cello and Orchestra on November 5–6
On November 5 and 6, the Raanana Symphonette Orchestra (Israel) will perform Jacob’s Dream—a cello concerto by composer Baruch Berliner.
Committed to promoting Jewish and Israeli music, and preserving and documenting original work, the Raanana Symphonette occupies a singular position in the realm of classical music. It gives over 350 concerts annually, taking part in prestigious festivals such as the Israel Festival, Abu-Ghosh, Kfar Blum, and the Desert Sounds Festival. The ensemble’s international appearances span the USA, France, Poland, Germany, Denmark, Eritrea, Azerbaijan, Canada, Belgium, and Switzerland. Among its diverse activities are operas, musicals, performances incorporating dance and multimedia, and recordings for labels such as Sony Classical.

Over the years, the orchestra has collaborated with renowned soloists and conductors from Israel and abroad, including Salvador Brotons, Maxim Shostakovich, Constantine Orbelian, Dan Ettinger, Giselle Ben Dor, and Noam Sheriff. It has also performed with many world-famous opera singers, including Paata Burchuladze, Lyubov Kazarnovskaya, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Sumi Jo, and Jessye Norman, as well as the renowned Italian ensemble Gergorian.
The roster of soloists who have appeared with the orchestra includes pianists Joaquin Achúcarro, Yaron Kohlberg, Arie Vardi, Oxana Yablonskaya, and Davide Cabassi; violinists Maxim Vengerov, Shlomo Mintz, Haggai Shaham, Sasha Rozhdestvensky, Vanessa Mae, Miriam Fried, and Nikolaj Znaider; cellists Misha Maisky, Arto Noras, and Dmitry Yablonsky; and the last Galician klezmer artist, Leopold Kozlowsky.
The cello solo will be performed by Hillel Zori, Professor at Tel Aviv University (Buchmann–Mehta School of Music), where he heads the string department. Mr. Zori won the gold medal at the 1986 Maria Canals Competition and has since received awards at the Rostropovich, Whitaker USA, Geneva, Stradivarius in Cremona, Shapira, and Jackson competitions in Tanglewood.
