Spanish Premiere of Genesis Symphonic Poem
A video of the Spanish premiere of Baruch Berliner’s Genesis symphonic poem is now available on the composer’s YouTube channel. Genesis occupies a central place in Dr. Berliner’s oeuvre, reflecting his lifelong connection to music and religion—two defining forces in his life.
The work draws on the biblical account of the Creation, with its central theme and philosophical message affirming that every person has an equal freedom to choose between good and evil.
The premiere took place as part of cultural exchange between the Spanish Province of Málaga and the Chinse province of Hunan.
Dr. Berliner’s composition was performed by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Málaga led by conductor Jianan Yan.
Mr. Yan is a renowned Chinese conductor who leads the Kunming International Philharmonic Orchestra. The first Chinese musician to earn a doctoral degree from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, he studied under Leonid Korchmar, Stanislav Dyachenko, and Benjamin Zander. Mr. Yan is currently a professor at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, as well as a visiting professor at Southern Utah University (USA) and the Inner Mongolia Academy of Arts. He also serves as artistic director and guest conductor of the Hunan University of Commerce Symphony Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the Russian Chamber Orchestra, and guest conductor of the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Pedro Ignacio Altamirano served as the narrator.
