Special Screening of the Movie Address on the Wall in Germany
On January 27, a special screening of the movie Address on the Wall will take place in Germany in commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. A powerful documentary drama, Address on the Wall presents a parable and an aesthetic inquiry into human nature. Through the poetic language of cinematography, it examines how ordinary people—doctors, craftsmen, musicians, and actors—become complicit in ruthless brutality. The film explores how and why human beings are capable of killing others solely on the basis of racial difference, as occurred at Babi Yar in Kyiv in 1941. Timely and universal in its message, the film raises profound questions: “Who are we? Why have we been killing since the beginning of time? Are you Cain or Abel? What choice will you make?”
Address on the Wall has been screened at 16 international festivals, receiving the award for Best Feature-Length Film at the Wallachia International Film Festival in Romania. This award honored the memory of director and composer Sergey Krutsenko, who passed away in early 2023. Part of the music for the movie was composed by German-Israeli composer Baruch Berliner, who was born in Tel Aviv in 1942. His parents miraculously fled Berlin to settle in Palestine, thereby escaping death during the Holocaust. The film’s soundtrack—the composition “El Maleh Rachamim,” written by Dr. Berliner in collaboration with Nachum Slutzker and Sergey Krutsenko (RIP)—has garnered international acclaim and has been performed by renowned musicians and orchestras worldwide.
A meeting with composer Dr. Berliner and producer Mr. Slutzker will follow the screening.
