Daniil Kogan
Daniil Kogan, born in Moscow in 1993 into a family of musicians, began studying violin at six under Marina Kesselman. He graduated with honours from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, where he trained with Maya Glezarova, and later refined his skills at Conservatorium Maastricht under Boris Belkin.
A recipient of scholarships from the Vladimir Spivakov International Charity Foundation, the New Names Foundation, and the Russian Performing Art Foundation, he has made his mark in concert programs curated by these esteemed institutions. He received diplomas at the Karol Lipiński International Violin Competition in Toruń, Poland, in 2016, and the Abram Yampolsky International Violin Competition in Moscow in 2017. In 2018, Mr. Kogan was awarded a sixth prize at the Marguerite Long–Jacques Thibaud–Régine Crespin International Violin Competition in Paris. At the 17th International Tchaikovsky Competition held in Moscow and St. Petersburg in 2023, he won a third prize and a bronze medal.
Mr. Kogan has performed at the Grand, Small, and Rachmaninoff Halls of the Moscow Conservatory; the Moscow International House of Music; the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall; the St. Petersburg State Academic Chapel; Carnegie Hall and Merkin Hall in New York; Salle Cortot and Maison de la Radio in Paris; Salle Poirel in Nancy; Flagey Hall in Brussels; Teatro dei Rinnovati in Siena; the Odessa Philharmonic; the National Philharmonic of Lithuania in Vilnius; Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn; and Hitachi Systems Hall in Sendai, Japan, among other venues.
He has collaborated with international ensembles, including the Svetlanov State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia, the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Pavel Kogan, the “New Russia” State Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Klaipėda, the Odessa National Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra.
He has worked with conductors Mark Gorenstein, Hobart Earle, and Dmitry Yablonsky; pianists Pavel Nersessian, Lucas Debargue, Lukas Geniušas, and Philipp Kopachevsky; violinists Alena Baeva and Dmitry Sitkovetsky; cellist Henri Demarquette; and other musicians.
Mr. Kogan has played at festivals across the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Estonia, and Thailand and contributed to the work of Switzerland’s Verbier Festival Academy of Soloists.
Since 2019, he has served as the artistic director of the “Prityazhenie” Creative Association, doubling as an assistant professor at the Department of Chamber Ensemble and String Quartet at the Moscow Conservatory.
In 2021, the Melodiya label released Mr. Kogan’s debut album, featuring works by Schubert, Szymanowski, and Schoenberg.
He performs on a 1737 Pietro Guarneri violin, provided by AVS Group.
Since 2024, he has collaborated with composer Baruch Berliner and producer Nachum Slutzker.
