Denis Sedov
A renowned opera singer, bass-baritone Denis Sedov has cooperated with composer Baruch Berliner and producer Nachum Slutzker since 2024.
He graduated with honors from the Glinka Choral School at the Glinka State Academic Capella in St. Petersburg, specializing in choral conducting. Denis’s passion for choir singing was ignited at the age of six after watching Leningrad Nightingales, a documentary about the School of Singers at the Leningrad Capella. After graduating from the Choral School, he continued his studies in the conducting department at the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem and also applied to its vocal department.
In 1993, Mr. Sedov made his professional debut at the Ludwigsburg Festival. Two years later, he was invited to join the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where he trained for another two years as a vocalist under Renata Scotto, Louis Quilico, Régine Crespin, and Carlo Bergonzi. In 1996, invited by Gian Carlo Menotti, Mr. Sedov performed at the Spoleto Summer Festival and, a year later, recorded his first album of Handel’s Ariodante with Anne-Sophie von Otter for Deutsche Grammophon. That same year, he sang his debut role at the Metropolitan Opera in Umberto Giordano’s Fedora, alongside Plácido Domingo and Mirella Freni.
Mr. Sedov earned widespread acclaim for his performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the opening ceremony of the XVIII Winter Olympic Games in Nagano in 1998.
As a guest principal, he has sung in productions at the world’s leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, the Paris Opera, and Covent Garden, while also performing in theaters and concert halls in San Francisco, Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, Santiago, Tel Aviv, and cities across Japan and China.
Having collaborated with renowned performers such as Plácido Domingo, Yo-Yo Ma, Pierre Boulez, Riccardo Muti, Niсolai Ghiaurov, James Levine, Kurt Masur, Seiji Ozawa, and Nani Bregvadze, Mr. Sedov has also taken part in recordings for several major labels, including Deutsche Grammophon, Telarc, and Naxos.
