Luis Andrade

Conductor and cellist Luis Andrade is one of Portugal’s most versatile musical personalities. He is a regular guest in the big musical centers of Europe.

He is a regular guest conductor with the Madeira Classical Orchestra, the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra, the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and the Limburg Symphony Orchestra. Guest appearances have taken him to Asia and Europe, to festivals such as the Santarém International Festival, Bornem Festival, Dalheimer Sommer, Madeira Music Festival and St Amand Festival in France.

He has performed with personalities such as Raquel Camarinha, Eduarda Melo, Alexander Kagan and Carlo Marchione. As a cellist Luis Andrade is a soloist, researcher and chamber musician who has given recitals in Germany, Holland, Belgium, Portugal and Korea. He is also a permanent member of the PHION orchestra in Holland.Together with Belgian pianist Lies Colman, he recorded his CD “Sum”; in 2016 with works by Kosenko, Lysenko and Borodin. In 2021 he recorded a CD with works by Bach and Bogaert for string trio. In 2023 he released his latest recording with Dutch pianist Constant Notten entitled “Empty Spaces”, a CD that includes works by Ukrainian and Russian composers that have never been recorded before.

Future projects include an edition/revision and recording of the complete works for cello by Madeiran composer Jõao Victor Costa, the revision and edition of Boris Lyatoshinsky’s quartets and the revision and edition of Jaques Reuland’s Symphony’s.
