«The Binding of Isaac»
The concerto is based on Baruch Berliner’s symphonic poem of the same name, inspired by the well-known Old Testament story where God tests Abraham’s faith by commanding him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac.
The composition is divided into five movements:
- Hineni / Here I am, my LORD
- The Departure
- The Question
- The Binding of Isaac
- The Blessing and Prayer
Two versions of the concerto exist—for violin and symphonic orchestra,
and for piano and orchestra.
The violin concerto was first performed in May 2024 by violinist
Haik Kazazyan, to whom the composer dedicated the concerto.
In June of the same year, pianist Miroslav Kultyshev premiered the piano concerto.
