Video Release: Uzbekistan Premiere of Jacob’s Dream Violin Concerto

A video of the first performance of Baruch Berliner’s Jacob’s Dream violin concerto in Uzbekistan is now available on the composer’s YouTube channel. The work was presented by violinist Graf Mourja and the Soloists of Uzbekistan chamber orchestra led by Chinese conductor Jianan Yan.

The prodigiously talented Graf Mourja, one of the most accomplished violinists of his generation, has won numerous competitions, including the “Premio Paganini” International Violin Competition (1990), the 10th Tchaikovsky International Competition in Moscow (1994), and the Monte Carlo Music Masters (Violin) (2010), to name a few. Mr. Mourja regularly gives solo recitals and collaborates as a principal with symphony orchestras throughout Russia and Europe, performing at prestigious concert venues.

Mr. Yan is a renowned Chinese conductor who leads the Kunming International Philharmonic Orchestra. The first Chinese musician to earn a doctoral degree from the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, he studied under Leonid Korchmar, Stanislav Dyachenko, and Benjamin Zander. Mr. Yan is currently a professor at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, as well as a visiting professor at Southern Utah University (USA) and the Inner Mongolia Academy of Arts. He also serves as artistic director and guest conductor of the Hunan University of Commerce Symphony Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the Russian Chamber Orchestra, and guest conductor of the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Soloists of Uzbekistan is regarded as one of the country’s most acclaimed ensembles. Its repertoire encompasses works ranging from the Baroque era to contemporary composition alongside selected popular music pieces. The orchestra regularly appears on Uzbekistan’s leading concert stages.
