World premiere of Abraham Trio in Italy

On September 9, the Dmitry Yablonsky Trio will perform on the premises of the Chiesa di San Domenico in Città di Castello, Italy, as part of Festival delle Nazioni, an international event showcasing national orchestras.

Cellist Dmitry Yablonsky, joined by the ensemble members violinist Janna Gandelman and pianist Laia Martin, will give the world premiere of the Abraham trio, a new work by composer Baruch Berliner based on his symphonic poem of the same name.

Mr. Yablonsky is an Israeli-American conductor and cellist, a Merited Artist of Azerbaijan, and a Grammy Award nominee in the category of Best Instrumental Soloist Performance with Orchestra. As a cellist, he has recorded a range of albums, including a double disk featuring David Popper’s High School of Cello Playing, cello concertos by Aram Khachaturian and Nino Rota, and sonatas by Dmitri Shostakovich and Mieczysław Weinberg. As a conductor, he has led numerous ensembles, including the Belgian National Orchestra and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and has recorded more than seventy albums.

Dr. Martin is a pianist, Professor of Music History at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, and Professor of Research Techniques at the Escuela de Música de Alto Rendimiento de Valencia. She collaborates with the research group “Texting Scarlatti: Composition, Reception, Performance,” led by the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and teaches piano at the Issi Fabra Music School in Puigcerdà and at the Conservatori de Música dels Pirineus. Dr. Martin is one of the directors of the music festival in Puigcerdà. In 2022, she launched the project Vespres Musicals de Santa Cecília de Bolvir. Since 2019, she has also served as director of the Pyrenees Conference on Artistic Research in Music.

Ms. Gandelman is the concertmaster of the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra and a professor at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University. A member of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation—one of the world’s leading cultural philanthropic initiatives—she performs on a GB Guadagnini violin generously provided by the Yehuda Zisapel Foundation.
