The symphonic poem “Genesis” by composer Baruch Berliner and producer Nachum Slutzker, in the recording of which the Moscow State Academic Symphony Orchestra took part, was released on the international online service Spotify, as well as on global digital music platforms (Yandex Music, Apple Music). At the conductor’s stand is Maestro Mikhail Kirchhoff, chief conductor of Baruch Berliner’s Genesis International Project. The conductor was maestro Mikhail Kirchhoff, chief conductor of Baruch Berliner’s Genesis International Project.

“Genesis” is a seven-part cosmogony by the Israeli composer, mathematician, philosopher and writer Baruch Berliner. The large-scale work is based on the biblical story of the creation of the world, and the leitmotif and main philosophical idea, according to the author, is the equal opportunity for every person to make their choice between good and evil.

Berliner’s work reflects the central events of the first chapters of the book of Genesis and consists of 7 parts:

— The Creation of the world;
— Adam and Eve;
— The Expulsion from Paradise;
— Cain and Abel;
— Noah;
— The Flood;
— The Token of Covenant

Baruch Berliner grew up in Viennese musical culture, and in his youth he learned with Oeden Partos, one of the great Israeli composers. In 1992, Berliner met musician Nachum Slutzker, who later became his producer, and showed him a draft of a musical composition. As a result of their collaboration, the symphonic poem “Genesis” was born, in which Berliner realized his dream, combining the most important and close to his heart: faith and music. “Music and faith, in my opinion, are very closely interrelated. The word reflects the content concretely and clearly, while the sound reflects the content abstractly and ambiguously. As a scientist, I know how to define sound in a dispassionate and precise manner. And as a musician, I cannot help but admire how the simple physical organization of sounds, with the help of which a melody is created, awakens in us emotional excitement, a wide variety of emotions, integrating feelings and intelligence, enriching the deep content of Torah verses about the creation of the world with its emotional perception. In my work, I wanted to combine the Holy Scriptures, which I believe in, with the music, which lives in my heart, to combine the language of the Torah with the language of sounds. After concerts, there is a lively dialogue between me and the audience, and I am especially touched by the reaction of the listeners, who during the performance feel like they are part of the creation of the world, as if they participated in the events described in the Torah.”

The symphonic poem “Genesis” for narrator and orchestra has already been performed in 31 countries around the world. In each country, the narrator read the timeless biblical text, translated into more than 700 languages, in the local language. Now the recording of “Genesis” with the participation of MSSO is available to listeners around the world, to everyone who longs for the unity of music and faith.
